Creating Memories with Hickory Farms #HickoryTraditions
Holiday traditions were created by the people before us. Our parents and their parents and so on. Holidays are when families gather together and celebrate. Holidays are happy times. For me, they are some of my best memories.
As a child, we had a couple of holiday traditions that I really didn't realize were traditions until I was grown and out on my own in this vast world. I miss those traditions with my grandmother immensely. Simple little things she did that still make my heart ache a bit for her.
As a mother with young children, I want to create our own holiday traditions. Decorating with nutcrackers, Elf on the Shelf, homemade cinnamon rolls, gingerbread houses and holiday cookies. There are few touches in our home that are all completely necessary to bring holiday cheer into our home this holiday season. If I happen to forget, I have three little people running around reminding me of these important traditions.
Every family as their own traditions they follow as years go by. Keeping these traditions alive are important to my children and I need to ensure I do this every year for them. It is my responsibility as the parent. I happen to think that our family grows closer together when we celebrate past rituals and create new memories together. I love when we have my aunts and my brothers and their children all together to celebrate. We bring a bit of my family's rituals in, a bit of my brother's rituals in and my sibling's and I rituals in. We honor everyone this way.
I have created my own traditions with my children, but I still keep alive the traditions of my childhood. I strive to teach my children the importance of spending these precious moments together with our family, with my aunts and with their cousins. My children will at some point move on and create their own holiday traditions and like me, keep some of the traditions we are now creating. They may be greatly different than the holiday traditions we have today, but we will have a bond because of the family traditions that will always exist.
Family is what we love most in the world. Our family is the world my children know. My family makes me feel secure. I cherish my family traditions and I want my children to do the same. I will keep these family traditions alive by doing what I did as a child and hope my children do the same.
I will bake cookies that no one will eat because it creates memories. I will stay up all night wrapping presents with the most perfect bows that will disappear in mere seconds, because it creates memories. I will roll out dough for cinnamon rolls and pass them out to everyone we know, because it creates memories. I will do whatever it takes. These are some of the most precious moments I will ever share with my family.
More cherished moments are created when we are able to share what we have with others. Teaching my children that not everyone is as fortunate as we are is an important part of holiday traditions for our family. Hickory Farms helps me show my children this woderful life lesson as well.
